Detritus, MEDICI Gallery, Lincoln, NE — April 24-28, 2023
Detritus was a show featuring works I have made over the last several years that focus on my experiences as a diabetic person. It was also my first solo exhibition as an artist.
In my art, I like to explore the minutiae of everyday life, especially for those of us whose everyday life diverges from the norm. I include things like insulin bottles, syringes, and my glucose meter in these works because these are things that I use on a daily basis, multiple times a day, even though these aren’t “normal” objects for most people. Overall, I want to make people reconsider the way they view the world around them and make them look at things from a different angle (whether literally or metaphorically).
